Marguerite d’Angouleme, Queen of Navarre and Francis I’s Protestant sister

You have to pity Francis I.  Not long after he finally ascended the French throne, he learned that is beloved older sister had gone over to the heretical Protestant side.  Marguerite was an extraordinary woman, the ancestor of the entire Bourbon dynasty that ruled France.  But how much do you know about Marguerite’s life?

Martha Walker Freer wrote histories of several women of Renaissance France, and she did not forget Marguerite. She devoted two lengthy volumes to Marguiriet’s life.
